Quebec Cancer Foundation (QCF)
Description:
The Quebec Cancer Foundation (QCF) provides daily support to persons living with cancer and their families in Quebec, by offering living environments and services that promote their well-being. Accommodation, information and support services are offered free of charge or at low cost.
Nutrition: Following an assessment on the Info-cancer hotline, the nursing staff can provide a reference to a free consultation service with the QCF’s nutritionist.
Emotional support: Emotional phone support provided by a trained volunteer who has had a similar cancer experience (this service is also provided to those close to the person with cancer). Support group for persons with brain tumours (cancer and non-cancer) offered by the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada at the QCF offices. Following an assessment on the Info-cancer hotline, the nursing staff can provide a reference to a free consultation service with the QCF’s psychologist.
Loan of wigs: Access to over 300 styles and colors of wigs. There is a $25 cost for this service, which includes care accessories. Available in the following QCF accommodation centers: Gatineau, Lévis, Québec, Saint-Hyacinthe et Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu.
Rehabilitation and exercise, complementary treatments: Massage therapy, art therapy and kinesiology (adapted physical activity) services are offered to persons with cancer in the Foundation’s regional centers and accommodations (Montréal, Quebec City, Sherbrooke, Gatineau and Trois-Rivières). Coffee get-togethers, Qi Gong workshops and other services are also offered; services vary by region.
Other services offered: The Quebec Cancer Foundation offers art therapy workshops to any person with cancer, up to one year after their final treatment. They are also offered to their caregivers. Info-cancer service (a one-stop resource for counseling, information, and reassurance). Document loans (books, DVDs, etc.), online or by phone; documents are delivered by mail. Financial support program for Quebecers with cancer in vulnerable situations: PAVQ allows Quebecers under the low-income threshold to focus more on their healing than on their financial burden, regardless of the type or stage of cancer they have, their location in Quebec or their age.
