Description:
Supportive Care Services at the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency are designed to help cancer patients and their families cope with the emotional, physical, and practical challenges of cancer. Services are delivered by an interprofessional team including social workers, dietitians, and trained volunteers, and are available primarily in Regina and Saskatoon, with some services offered virtually.
Services Provided
Emotional and Psychological Support
- Individual and group‑based emotional support programs
- Specialized support groups, including Iron Will, a peer support group for men with cancer
- Counselling and distress screening to help manage anxiety, depression, and emotional concerns related to cancer and treatment
Counselling Services
- Individual, family, and palliative care counselling
- Support for coping strategies, relationship concerns, and lifestyle adjustments
- Bereavement counselling for families before and after loss
Grief and Loss Support
- Grief and loss support groups for patients and families
- Sacred Transitions: Indigenous Grief and Loss Support Group, an Indigenous‑led program grounded in First Nations and Métis worldviews, open to all patients and families
Nutrition and Practical Support
- Nutritional counselling from registered dietitians
- Assistance with practical and system‑navigation concerns, including financial, family, and community resource referrals
Complementary and Wellness Programs
- Programs such as movement‑based classes, creative expression, meditation, and education sessions
- Monthly rotating programs offered in Regina and Saskatoon, with some online options available
