Eligibility
Albertans affected or at moderate to high risk for hereditary cancer condition determined through a genetic risk evaluation of the individual's medical and family history. Referrals where the risk for a hereditary cancer condition is low are declined.
Description:
Provides care for people and their families who have, or who are at risk for, a hereditary cancer condition. Services include assessment, diagnosis and genetic counselling, and screening and management recommendations.
Adult-onset hereditary cancer conditions are managed through our main Richmond Road Diagnostic and Treatment Centre location, while childhood-onset hereditary cancer conditions are managed through our Alberta Children's Hospital location.Healthcare providers should consult the Alberta Referral Directory for service referral guidelines and referral forms. Self-Referrals are accepted only when a hereditary cancer gene mutation has been identified in a family member. A copy of the relative's genetic testing results or Family Information Letter is needed.
