Genetics
Eligibility
Patients must be referred by family doctor/health care provider. Genetic testing is offered when specific criteria are met.

Genetic assessment and diagnosis
- Extensive review of health, family, developmental, and psychosocial histories
- Physical exam, if required by a physician
- Targeted analysis including cytogenetic, molecular, and metabolic investigations
Genetic counselling
- Reproductive (including preconception and prenatal)
- Pediatric
- Adult
- Cancer
Genetic testing
- Discussion of testing options, including risks, benefits, medical impact, psychosocial consequences, and possible discrimination
- Targeted analysis including cytogenetic, molecular, and metabolic investigations
Educational counselling regarding diagnosis
- Individualized explanations of how heredity contributes to the disease and recurrence risks
- Identification of community resources and support information for families
Support for families and individuals
(So they may make autonomous decisions based on their goals, ethics, beliefs, and to cope with the genetic disease)
- Referral to appropriate specialists
- Follow-up with other family members when appropriate

- Special interest groups and local schools
