Eligibility

Registration is available for elementary schools and daycares. Other resources on the website are available for all.

Description:

SunSense is a national sun safety program developed by the Canadian Cancer Society, with the goal of reducing the number of people diagnosed with skin cancer in Canada.

As childhood exposure to ultraviolet radiation is an important risk factor for developing skin cancer, SunSense has a focus on settings where children spend more time. SunSense provides free tools and resources to support the creation of sun safe environments that protect children from harmful UV. SunSense has information and resources for schoolsdaycares, and summer camps as well as information for parents.

SunSense uses a multi-component approach to reduce skin cancer that includes:

-       Education: educating parents, children and staff about sun safety

-       Policy: adopting policies that promote sun safety behaviour and reduce exposure to ultraviolet radiation

-       Shade: increased availability of shade, better use of shade.

By registering your school or daycare in the SunSense program you will gain access to additional free resources and have the opportunity to participate in school and daycare specific programming. Visit the Schools and Daycare sections of the website to learn more.
