Description:
The Shirley & Jim Fielding Northeast Cancer Centre is one of fourteen regional cancer programs in Ontario, operating as part of Health Sciences North (HSN). It is an official partner of Ontario Health – Cancer Care Ontario (OH‑CCO) and provides cancer care to a population of more than 600,000 residents across Northeastern Ontario.
The centre receives over 3,000 new cancer patients each year and delivers approximately 17,000 chemotherapy visits and 38,000 radiation therapy visits, allowing Northern Ontario residents to receive treatment locally rather than traveling to Southern Ontario.
It collaborates with twelve community hospital sites to coordinate specialized cancer services ordered through the Cancer Centre, ensuring access across the region. The centre also provides flexible care options, including virtual home‑based appointments with the care team.
The organization is home to world‑renowned oncologists, scientists, and researchers who conduct research and clinical trials recognized internationally.
